Some updates
Well we had a nice chat with one of the three neonatologists (that's a preemie doc) yesterday. Basically what it boils down to is we're not being adequately informed of the orders. Nurses weren't deciding when to tube feed him (Also called "NG" for "nasal gastric" tube...), the doctor had written an order to NG him every other feeding, so the nurses were just following orders. So we had a chat with the doctor and agreed to work together on a "care plan" for Luke. Basically they're going to write down the steps he needs to accomplish to be able to come home, and we're going to put input on what we expect in return. One thing we're not going to compromise on is having the nurse or the doctor inform us of any changes in orders when we go in. For example, they're planning on upping his feeding goal to 60 ccs, from 55. We'd like to know that. Also, they're planning on trying to "nipple feed" 2 out of 3 feedings now, instead of just 1 out of 2. Also, good for us to know. We're his freaking parents, after all.
