Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the NICU...
Little Luke has got his blood sugar issues straightened out and seems to be doing just fine in that department. However he is still a premie, and keeping that in mind, he's still got some issues. Today he decided that breathing may just be optional while one cries and/or eats. His oxygen saturation really drops cause he doesn't remember that he needs to breathe. This doesn't happen every time, but they need to keep an eye on him in the NICU so that they can give him oxygen when it happens. Most of the time he's fine, but the bad news is he'll be in the NICU for at least a few days, possibly weeks. The NICU pediatrician was saying this is normal for a premie, and they're not overly concerned, but if he had these kinds of issues while he was at home, it could be very very serious. He said it's typical to bring babies home around full-term maturity, which is about 37 weeks, which for us would be a week from Thursday (the 10th, to be exact.)
So we're praying for him, and putting his name in the temple prayer rolls. We would sure appreciate the faith of everyone out there on his behalf. Please pray for our little Luke.
Thanks!
PS More pictures to come. He's so cute!!
