Parent/Teacher Conferences, take two.
We went to Haley's school this evening for the second parent/teacher conference. I guess the elementary school system has gone through a few changes since I was a youngster. For one, they now do 3 periods instead of 4 quarters (or two semesters) -- what is this, a hockey game? And for two, grades are not A's and B's and C's, etc., but rather 4's and 3's and 2's and 1's. 4 is good, it's like an A. I guess it goes back to the whole grade point average thing... Anyway...
Haley's first report card back in November was perfect. All 4's and E's (that's excellent... it's what you get in things that aren't graded, like following rules, good behavior, that sort of thing... the non-academic stuff), so she had quite the standard to live up to. I wouldn't have been surprised to see an "S" (instead of "E"... satisfactory instead of excellent) or maybe a 3 instead of a 4, somewhere. But no, she surprised me again with a second PERFECT report card! Unbelievable! As a reward, we took her to the book fair and let her pick out any book she wanted. She got two. One is a design/coloring book (complete with colored pencils) and the other is a fairly long (possibly as much as 100 pages) book called War Horse, about a horse that gets recruited into World War I.
We are so proud! Way to go Haley! Set the standard high!
