Salt Lake Marathon

Last Saturday Zach ran the Salt Lake City Marathon.  This was his third marathon.  Since I'm familiar with the area, having lived here all my life, I was able to take the kids and cheer him on in three different spots.  The first stop was about half way at 6200 south and 2300 East.  I forgot to get the camera out of the car so we didn't get any pictures of him at that point.  The kids and I had made posters.  The kids were amazed that at this point the runners we were seeing had been running for over two hours.  After seeing Zach and getting his long sleeved shirt we headed back to the car.  We made a stop at Walgreens and got some drinks and a cherry coke for the finish line.  We headed to 3300 south and 400 East.  We were able to play at a park while we waited for Zach to pass this point.  Ginger and Cache and Jill and her kids showed up to help us cheer Zach on.  Zach stopped and rested for a minute or two and then took off again.  He was doing so good and only had 6 miles to go.  I let the kids play at the park for awhile and then we headed downtown to the Gateway for the finish.  I was really worried about finding parking and getting around but had no problem.  We went and waited and finally saw Zach.  Haley and Emmy were able to run the last little bit with him.  Luke wanted to but didn't get out of the stroller in time and I couldn't catch them.  He finished in just over 5 hours.  He was really hoping to finish in under 5 hours but missed it by just over 3 minutes.  Each time he's run a marathon he's gotten better.  I'm sure next time he'll beat his 5 hour goal.  But even if he doesn't I think it is still pretty awesome that he runs marathons.  I'm not sure I'm crazy about running that long, but then again you never now.  I've kind of caught the bug....

Zach is already trying to talk me into him running St. George this year.  I'm not gonna lie, it is hard to want to give him up that much again.  A lot of his training is done during lunch breaks at work. But there have been the times when it has happened after work, those are few and far between.  Training takes a lot of time away from us and sometimes makes me a little crazy.  But if he's not out running then he'll be out biking or swimming. So the jury's still out on whether he'll try for St. George this year.  Anything is possible....

Good pictures! Way to go, Zach! And way to go, Robyn for putting up with all the away time. I wish someone told me that once in a while! ;)

GREAT JOB ZACH!!! I have a whole new appreciation for what you did! The half was so tough for me that I can't even comprehend a full (what a great accomplishment).
Thanks for the invite tot the BBQ (unfortunately our girls were out of town and Dan worked that night;)
